Guess what — I became a radio host this year! Art 2 Art – our 30-minute talk show aired every Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on DZRH – premiered in March with no less than Maestro Ryan Cayabyab as our first guest! I didn’t know it then but Art 2 Art would eventually become a springboard for so many creative collaborations. It also continues to be a source of inspiration to me, owing to so many encounters with National Artists and living legends.
For this year’s BM School recital, I created Valse Classique. My daughter Missy was already a student in the school and she performed in this ballet. After the recital, she very seriously told me: “Mama, ballet may be your thing, but it’s not mine.” I had difficulty accepting this but respected her decision to concentrate on her horseback riding lessons.
Ballet Manila had a busy year performing in Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan. We also added new gems into our treasure trove of original repertoire: People’s Artist of Russia Sergey Vikulov created the role of the Girl in Night on me; Tony Fabella gifted us with Dancing to Czerny and Osias Barroso choreographed Sonata, which we performed with the London Piano Trio’s Robert Atchison and Olga Dudnik.
